How I did I accomplish small breaks and meditation using Apple Watch?

We all live in hard times. We all need to have breaks between two meetings, two lectures, two very condensed tasks.

Why do we need a break? To clarify our minds, to think a little about our own presence, to realize where we are, what we are doing, how we feel ourselves. This is not a sleeping on the job. This is to clear our wellbeing from the infinite number of tasks to an empty spread of notebook.

However, we do not set our schedules on our own, other people fulfill whenever they see any empty slot. When we open our notebooks at each morning, it is almost no chance not to receive any new meeting invitation.

Besides that, I am not a meditation kind of person. Personally I do not prefer to make meditation for half an hour or so. I like exercising, but exercising does not create in-day refreshment to me.

What I found is to use Apple Watch, that vibrates me during the day to breath.

To breath? Until that time, I was thinking whether Apple has thought that I forgot breathing.

I was forgetting breathing.

I do not know what non-iOS gadgets are doing, but Apple Watch, when you wear it, asks you to breath for 1 minute, in almost random times of the day. You can select the duration, but cannot specify when the notification comes. What it asks is simply stop, concentrate your breath, -and based on the haptic directions of watch-, inhale and exhale.

I started to do this 5 to 7 minutes per day.

I put myself a daily goal of breathing 5 minutes, in 5 different sessions of 1 minıute.

So what happened in my life by spending 5 times 1 minutes of breaks and breathing exercises:

  1. I give breaks. Between meetings, between any conversations or between anything. I give breaks and that refreshes me.
  2. I’ve realized the power of breathing. I feel every second of the process in my body, and both mentally and physically I feel better.
  3. Even in a big, important meeting I can breath deeply (no, not with a sound) and complete my meditation. Sure that I do not prefer this method, but if I don’t have any time, it is better than nothing.

It is now one of my daily habits to pause myself several times for 1 minutes and focusing on my breath. I feel myself better, and refreshed during the day since then.

Never let you work without any breaks.

Even with small adjustments, it is possible to refresh yourself during the day.

Despite I only focused Apple Watch, -and this is because I am an Apple user- there might be similar options for the users of other brands as well.
